To market, to market

To market, to market to buy a penny bun,

Home again, home again, market is done.

English nursery rhyme from 1805

This is where I shop for my yummy organic fruit and veggies

at a small town market in southern Spain.

Here’s the organic veggie lady showing off all the wonderful food she grows 🙂

Can you even begin to imagine the mix of smells here?

Cumin and cinnamon and

paprika and ginger and

nutmeg and mustard and ……

Herbs to cure any ailment: diabetes, insomnia, cholesterol, obesity, constipation…..

Why don’t they have herbs to cure anger, jealousy, and hatred?

  1. What a mouth-watering presentation! Do I miss all this! The fragrance, the colors, the taste, the variety, the market atmosphere of everyone juggling to get attention and get served. The incredible variety of tomatoes, from green to purple. The very same morning picked produce from a man who weighs it on an old-fashioned wooden scale. Wish I could be there again!

  2. Labas Indre, How nice to meet up again. The markets in Spain and in Europe are wonderful. Yours reminds me more of ones I’ve seen in Iran in 1975 and Turkey than Northern Europe or even France. We have small markets in Seattle too, okay there are a few big ones as well, but I only go to the small ones in the summer. I always buy more than I can eat, as the vegetables and fruit look so wonderful.
My now barely 19 yr old granddaughter is in Europe for the fall. In my time gap year was after college, not before. But we did meet up with her mother and aunt and me in Paris and then she and I went to Nice and the hill towns for another week. I saw Henrieta a few days ago and caught up on you and Laima.
I wish you best of luck on your creative venture. I know you can do it. I admire you so much. My creativity is only words… The little I have. Parasyk, violeta

    1. Oh, what a wonderful surprise to “see” you here! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read.

As for the market, southern Spain is more like Northern Africa than Northern Europe. After all, we are just a few hours away from Morocco by ferry.

Ah, the beauty of traveling through Europe when one is 19….! So happy for your grand-daughter!
