Who made your clothes?

Fall doesn’t arrive officially until September 23rd.

Denim Wrap Top

Stores are urging you to buy lots and lots of new clothes with the change of seasons.

This video here was made almost a year ago. You may or may not have seen it.

It is only 2:44 minutes long.

Watch below:

Have you ever  thought about who  made your clothes?

Do you like to buy lots of clothes, buying cheaply,
and replacing the clothes every few months?

Or do you prefer to buy something only occasionally, looking for quality,
spending more knowing that it will last a long time?

In other words,

are you a

QUANTITY shopper?
-or-
QUALITY shopper?

Or something in-between?

(I am in-between but would prefer to be a quality-only shopper.
I admit, sometimes it is hard to resist a cute Tshirt for $5!)
The video is just to have us think about the impact of our decisions.

I am curious to hear what you have to say.
Please leave your thoughts  below!

Who really made your clothes?

I did not make this video (although I wish I had!)
It is called HANDPRINT,  from Director Mary Nighy and Producers White Lodge.
It premiered at London Fashion Week in the fall of 2013.  The film aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by garment workers and jewelry producers around the world.

  1. What a beautifully done, thought provoking video! I’m somewhere in-between, too. I would prefer to be a Quality Shopper only but, I totally know what you mean about the allure of a $5 t-shirt. I really miss Loehmann’s, that was my favorite place to buy high quality clothes at less expensive prices; even though I only shopped there once or twice each year, I’ve really missed them since they closed. I’ll keep this video in mind the next time I want to update my wardrobe!

    1. Actually, I do try to keep the cheap clothes buying to a minimum but, at least, the first step is to be aware of our choices. I would often buy cheap clothes for my kids years ago since they’d grow out of it so quickly. But I realize now that that’s not a good justification. It would have been better to buy quality and pass them down or donate. Live and learn!
      Thanks for your thoughts, Jilienne!

    1. The video inspired me, so I was inspired to write the blog and, in turn, you, Tamika, were inspired! Don’t you love how inspiration grows?!

  2. Absolutely loved this video. It was definitely thought provoking and made me reconsider where I purchase my clothes. I shared it on my FB page so it will hopefully inspire others.

Now it is time for me to get one of the wrap shirts. Love them and the leggings. Do you sell the leggings?

Thanks for this. It was well needed.

    1. Yes, the video is stunning! I must have watched it at least half a dozen times by now.

As for the top, yes, it’s in my HelloMyGoddess shop. And. as a matter of fact, there ARE leggings made by the same designer. I’ll have her put them up in my shop, hopefully soon! I’ll leave a message here when they are ready. 🙂

  3. Great blog and video. I love the sounds and the hands… The wrap is truly lovely. And so many colors to choose from!
